A few years ago I was in a low, slow state of being. I had depression, physical health issues, and was making choices for myself which were negative, unhealthy and damaging.

At this time of my life, all my thoughts were negative. I wallowed and pondered on all of the difficulties and problems I was facing. When I eventually reached out to friends and family, I was only focused on what was wrong with my life (and what was wrong with me).

I turned to external solutions to my pain – I used drugs, sex and food to distract myself from what I was feeling, which couldn’t seem to be fixed by anything else. Needless to say, none of these “solutions” worked long-term. I always found myself back at square one, faced with the negative people, experiences and feelings I had somehow ended up with as part of my daily life.

When I began to choose more positive thoughts – more to come on why it is a choice - positive, lighter energy began to seep into my life in the form of people, opportunities and experiences. I began to feel like I had more control over what kind of life I led, and I regained my confidence and happiness. It was an upwards spiral!

You become what you believe. Start to change what you believe, and the world will reflect it all back to you as truth.

I still have difficult times – just because I have found ways to create a more peaceful life for myself doesn’t mean I exist in a cutesy Sims world where everything is under control. Part of the journey of life (and indeed spirituality) is accepting these states as part of the balance of life.

The Universe works rhythmically – seasons, lifecycles, tides, the see-saw of day-to-night – and we as human beings are born from exactly the same source as these forces of nature. It only makes sense that we too have cycles, rhythms, ups and downs in our lifetime.

It’s what we choose to do with those tougher days that defines our experience on this crazy planet. A good starting point is to view obstacles as an opportunity to grow – I can guarantee you will get to know yourself so much better for it.

Stay updated on True Light for practices, teachings, meditations and lunar cycles. If I can make even one person’s day a tiny bit easier, I’ll consider my work a success.
